In the historical town of Sri Chamkaur Sahib, Shanti Swaroop Memorial Educational Society has been making a difference in the lives of thousands of poor rural women and children.

The Society was founded in 1976 by Late Smt. & Sri Kewal Krishan Dhand in the memory of their beloved son Sri Shanti Sarup a Social Worker who laid his life while saving the victims of unfortunate bus which fell down in river Beas at Pandoh, Himachal Pardesh.

Since 1976, under the leadership of Prof. Ramesh Chander Dhand and his wife Smt. Raksha Dhand, the Society has been successfully running several projects aimed at improving the lives of thousands of poor women and children in the Roopnagar, Fatehgarh Sahib and Noorpur Districts of Punjab.

Creche centers for infants and toddlers of working women, reproductive and child health, vocational training, self help groups, family counseling, AIDS awareness, awareness against female foeticide and discrimination against girl child, rural sanitation, low cost housing technology development and many other similar projects that help empower and educate women.
